Last night, Bills player Damar Hamlin collapsed from cardiac arrest, forcing medics to perform CPR for 9 minutes on the field. The internet has thoughts, prayers, and questions.

First off, say a prayer today for Damar Hamlin, his family, and his teammates on the Buffalo Bills.

In an absolute freak occurrence, Buffalo Bills safety Damar Hamlin suffered a cardiac arrest on the field during last night's Monday Night Football game and had to be resuscitated by EMTs at the stadium after what looked like a routine tackle on a football play.

He was on the receiving end of a hit by Bengals receiver Tee Higgins before he got up and then suddenly collapsed to the ground.

The medical staff at the stadium administered CPR for 9 MINUTES on the field. They had to keep his heart pumping.

Look at the faces of the players and the teammates. I tuned into the game while everyone was standing around and the TV was on mute, but I saw the faces of both teams' quarterbacks and the tears in their eyes – just from their faces I knew something had happened that we had never seen before.

The latest update from the Bills came around 2 am this morning:

Watch as fans from both teams went to the hospital to pray for Damar:

Many people shared this video prior to the game where a happy and seemingly healthy Damar Hamlin spoke with his mom and family.

Others online reached out to donate to Damar Hamlin's charity toy drive. Before the injury, Hamil had raised a few thousand dollars, and as of this morning, the money raised has topped $3 million.

Here's his most recent Instagram post promoting his toy drive:

This reporter shared a gut-wrenching photo of Bengals receiver Tee Higgins who delivered the blow on Hamlin. He didn't make a dirty play in the least; it was just a normal hit you'd see 100 times in a game like this.

He also needs your prayers today:

From a broadcaster's perspective, no one explained the entire situation better than Ryan Clark:

He is 24 years old. So young.

It puts everything into perspective.

This injury, and the many similar circumstances of sudden heart attacks recently among healthy young people, led many to ask the question that I am sure popped into your head as well:

Did he get the shot?

Steve Deace, who has been on the leading edge of questioning the vaccine, had this to say:

Of course, this response also sparked political outrage, as many argued this is no time for politics and that we should be primarily concerned about Hamlin's recovery.

As a Buffalo fan and someone who cares about the game, I do agree that his well-being is the #1 issue at this point.

There is a time and a place to question the Covid shot. But using this live situation to make the point is maybe not the best way to get the point across and it is probably not the most compassionate way to argue.

But the question should not be off the table. The recent trend of young athletes collapsing from cardiac arrest needs serious answers so that we can know the truth instead of clinging to divisive conspiracies.

In the meantime, pray for Damar.
