Absolutely mind-blowing (or stomach churning).

My immediate thought:

How the heck did Leif Erickson, Christopher Columbus, the Pacific island tribes, Francis Drake, or Magellan ever navigate across the world on wooden boats??? The ages before ours were filled with hard men who did hard things to make the impossible happen.
