Wokies are mad that Netflix cast a Jewish woman to play Mary, the Jewish mother of Jesus (also a Jew)

There might be a few reasons to distrust a Netflix production about the Bible made by prosperity-preacher Joel Osteen:

But casting an Israeli Jewish woman is at the absolute bottom of the list.

But because we live in clown world, the woke crowd has taken issue with the fact that the leading actors, Noa Cohen and Ido Tako, are both Israelis and look a little too white for the wokies.

"Middle Eastern holy figure" hmm ... I wonder who that could be referring to.

Maybe Matthew 1 gives us a clue.

Abraham was the father of Isaac, Isaac the father of Jacob, Jacob the father of Judah and his brothers ... Boaz the father of Obed, whose mother was Ruth, Obed the father of Jesse, and Jesse the father of King David ... [King] Josiah the father of Jeconiah and his brothers at the time of the exile to Babylon ... After the exile to Babylon: Jeconiah was the father of Shealtiel ... Matthan the father of Jacob, and Jacob the father of Joseph, the husband of Mary, and Mary was the mother of Jesus who is called the Messiah.

Director D.J. Caruso told Entertainment Weekly back in October that the casting was purposeful, saying,

When we started on this project, I immediately initiated a search for Mary. It was important to us that Mary, along with most of our primary cast, be selected from Israel to ensure authenticity.

But authenticity just isn't good enough these days. We need to rewrite history. It's the #CurrentYear, so don't you know that Jesus was a 21st-century Palestinian who preached Marxist liberation theology??

Tell me you don't know anything about history, the Jews, or Christianity ... without telling me you don't know anything about Christianity.

I'll let Tom here explain some of the history:

I'm sure all these keyboard warriors calling for a boycott over the Jewish casting of a Jewish character were the target audience that Netflix was trying to reach, but I guess we'll soon find out how the movie performs.

We should all just be happy that Netflix might actually get something halfway right!

The film will be released on on December 6. Here's the trailer if you want it:
