Louisiana legislature overrides governor's veto to ban child sex change procedures. Nearly half the states have now banned this practice.

On Tuesday, the Louisiana Senate voted 28-11 to override Democrat Gov. John Bel Edwards' veto of a bill that would ban cross-sex hormones and the castration or breast removal of minors, among other surgeries that brutally hack apart young people for the sake of gender ideology.

The vote followed a similar override in the House (75-23, with 6 Democrats joining Republicans), meaning the "Stop Harming Our Kids Act" is now law.

Louisiana Republican Rep. Gabe Firment, the sponsor of the bill, told The Daily Wire that this was a historic win.

We made it clear today that our children are worth fighting for. This great victory would not have been possible without the prayers and support of parents, grandparents, pastors, and grassroots organizations from around the state who rose up and declared with one voice that ‘No one in Louisiana has the right to harm a child'. God Bless the families of our beautiful state!

Louisiana Rep. Laurie Schlegel pointed out the distorted logic that is involved in the movement to prescribe permanent bodily changes to young people.

As a counselor, I know of no other mental health disorder where we affirm distorted thinking. We don't affirm the distorted thinking of anorexic children who suffer body dysmorphia, do we? And since studies have shown that gender dysphoria does not persist in most children past puberty, why would any so called treatment include irreversible medical procedures. The suggestion that the only hope for children experiencing gender dysphoria is cross-sex hormone therapy, puberty blockers, or life changing sex operations is ludicrous. These children need intensive mental health counseling.

There have only been two successful overrides of a governor's veto in Louisiana since the state adopted a new constitution in 1974.

The state joins roughly 20 others, mostly in the South, who have banned gender procedures for children.
