Meghan Markle has epiphany, says job as suitcase girl on "Deal or No Deal" was "not necessarily about brains"

Royal outcast Meghan Markle recently opened up to Harper's Bazaar about her time working on the game show "Deal or No Deal," where she said she was objectified for her looks. Markle told the fashion magazine,

I was thankful for the job, but not for how it made me feel, which was not smart.

Yes, that's right, a job on a game show where her entire job was to look pretty and open a suitcase maybe once during every episode made her feel dumb.

What did she think she was applying to be? A stock broker or something?

The duchess explained,

I had also studied international relations in college, and there were times when I was on set at Deal or No Deal and thinking back to my time working as an intern at the U.S. Embassy in Argentina in Buenos Aires and being in the motorcade with the security [sic] of treasury at the time and being valued specifically for my brain. Here, I was being valued for something quite the opposite[.]

Presumably, she made the choice to accept this job, even though she was overqualified for it, and it looks like her gamble paid off because now she's married to a literal prince.

The duchess said that she and the other models on the show would all wear fake eyelashes and extensions, and be given spray tan vouchers each week to prepare for their time on the small screen.

Markle said,

There was a very cookie-cutter idea of precisely what we should look like. It was solely about beauty — and not necessarily about brains

I am 100% sure that she is exactly right that her job as a game show model was objectifying, and probably not the most intellectual workplace, but seriously, what can you expect when the entire job description is to smile and wear a slinky dress on TV?
