According to the New York Post, the NYPD and Fire Department have launched a search-and-rescue operation and are working to pull people from the water.

Apparently, 147-foot Mexican navy tall ship, carrying 277 crew members, had sailed ceremonially into Lower Manhattan on Tuesday to give New Yorkers a preview of next year's blockbuster Sail4th event, which will celebrate America's 250th birthday.

Tragically, 2 men have died and 19 more were injured from the wreck.

The authorities said that 277 people were aboard the ship, and that nobody fell into the water, even as some sailors were left dangling from harnesses on the masts after the crash.

Absolutely tragic. And it appeared completely avoidable.

Here's another angle of this dramatic event for you fine readers. 👇
