Lots of salty people in the comments over this one:
Christ the King Sunday calls us to humility, courage, and service - virtues that strengthen both faith and public life - a unity like no other in Him. As we prepare for this day, may we remember that our work right here carries weight way beyond policy or partisanship. Each decision we make must reflect integrity, respect for truth, and a concern for all we represent.
Rep. Josh Shriver, who introduced the resolution, is Catholic. His co-sponsors for the resolution were all Republicans: Reps. Cameron Cavitt, James DeSana, Matt Maddock, Greg Markkanen, Gina Johnsen, Doug Wozniak, Joseph Fox, Jason Woolford, Angela Rigas, and Tim Kelly.
Christ the King Sunday is also known as the "Feast of Christ the King," or my favorite, the "Solemnity of Our Lord Jesus Christ, King of the Universe." In the Catholic Church, it has had formal observance since Pope Pius XI instituted it a century ago.
Among certain Protestant denominations, the event is known as "Judgement Sunday" or "Kingdomtide." This is the end of the traditional liturgical year, which starts with Christ's birth in Advent and ends with Christ's return.
Hold up, this guy has a question:
I'm glad you asked! The Bible records the importance of a nation's leaders acknowledging God (2 Chronicles 12:5-8, Jonah 3, Isaiah 37, 2 Chronicles 34:19-27) as the government is God's servant (Romans 13:1-6) and God rules over all human authorities (Psalm 22:28). Nations that acknowledge the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob are called blessed (Psalm 33:12), and nations that disobey God will be uprooted (Jeremiah 12:17, Jeremiah 18:7-10, Proverbs 14:34).
All of this was readily known by those who founded Michigan and the United States, as well as our entire system of governance, which is why presidents used to regularly proclaim national days of prayer and fasting.
But because some low-IQ judges used Thomas Jefferson's 1803 letter to the Danbury Baptists out of context, we now ignore the Constitution and the Founders' design by making Secularism the law of the land.
Thus we get salty comments from grumpy grumps:
Christ is king!
