Walmart shoplifters of Michigan's Genesee County District better beware because Judge Jeffrey Clothier of the Genesee County District Court has devised a unique form of punishment for the crime.
Anyone convicted of shoplifting in the judge's court will be ordered to appear at the local Walmart to wash cars for free as their community service.
The judge says that Walmart is on board with his plan and will provide water for the service, especially considering how much shoplifters cost the retail store and the community in higher prices.
'It's just crazy,' he said, noting he had 48 such cases on his docket one day.
The car washing events will be held on weekends in March and April, and the judge expects there to be around 75-100 people available to wash cars.
'I don't think everybody that steals is a bad person. Sometimes people are just down on their luck,' said Clothier, who was recently elected to Genesee County District Court. 'But there's going to be consequences when you break the law.'
'I think it will be humiliating to be out there washing cars if you see someone you know,' the judge said.
And the judge is going to be there to make sure everyone shows up for their humiliation.
'I will be there washing cars with them,' Clothier said.
America needs more of this!
