Five weeks.
Minneapolis Public Schools have extended the option for students to skip out of in-person classes and continue in online learing until at least February 12th.
Because ICE is mean.
Because it's not safe to be in a classroom all day with ICE out on the streets, they're going to let kids hang out on the streets all day and just take a few hours of online classes.
Because Covid taught us how well that worked.
Here's Fox 9 in Minnesota:
Marcia Howard, the President of the Minneapolis Federation of Educators, posted to social media Thursday night students are being given the option to learn from home through Reb[SIC]. 12. She says the teachers' federation brought the idea to the school district.
Typically, learning from home is offered only the event of weather.
'MPS is going to be offering an option for students to learn from home until February 12. This is an OPTION and exactly what so many families need right now. MFE members brought this to MPS and MPS listened. Let's stay strong together Minneapolis,' Howard said.
Let's stay strong, Minneapolis!
We have to band together to keep ICE from deporting the thousands of Somalis who are stealing money from us left and right!

All district-sponsored programs, including activities, athletics, community education and adult education are also canceled.
Yep, extracurriculars are all canceled too.
The reactions are perfect.
Yep, that's the point. The only people who will take advantage of this option are bad students with bad parents, students who are going to join the violent protests, and illegal aliens.
It's a sacrifice the Minneapolis public schools are willing to make.
