Mississippi just became the latest state, along with Tennessee, to pass a law that says that kids can't consent to have their private parts mutilated by doctors.
Here's how NBC covers it:
Mississippi is one of at least 23 states this year to consider restrictions on gender-affirming health care for minors, which can include puberty blockers, hormone therapy and, rarely, surgery.
In addition to barring this type of care for minors, Mississippi's bill also bans public funding from going to any institution or individual that provides such care to minors. Health care providers who infringe the law can have their licenses revoked. The law also allows minors who receive transition-related care to sue providers for 30 years after they receive care. The measure takes effect immediately.
Those evil, bigoted Republicans are banning "care" for children!
This bill is obviously transphobic and hateful because it... preserves childhood innocence, protects kids from predatory doctors, therapists, and parents who coerce them into thinking they were born in the wrong body and reinforces the societally accepted idea that children are unable to give consent regarding life-altering decisions.
So much "hate."
There's nothing caring about "gender-affirming," AKA biology-denying, care.
Yesterday, at the bill signing, our Matt Walsh joined the celebration and gave this impassioned speech.
We simply cannot allow this evil to continue. We simply cannot tolerate it. We who are decent and rational people, we who love our children, we who recognize basic truths.
And one of the most basic truths is that children who are confused about their identity need guidance and love and clarity. They don't need hormone injections and scalpels. They need and deserve to be protected from the child abusing quacks and soulless goblins who wish to exploit their confusion for their own financial gain.
That's why we need this law. Our kids cannot protect themselves. They cannot protect themselves. We need to do it That's our job as adults.
And everybody who has remained silent on this issue is culpable in what is happening to our kids. Many members of the media who have not demonstrated the slightest bit of skepticism, as the medical establishment has just told us over the years that it's lifesaving care to castrate a child... the majority of the media goes along with that... all culpable in this.
That's why we need to protect our kids. We can, and we must. And now Mississippi has.
