Here's your daily reminder that socialism is still HOT SEWAGE.
More than 75 percent of people in Venezuela live in extreme poverty, which is almost 10 percent higher than last year (67.7 percent), according to the 2020-2021 National Survey of Living Conditions. The study also found approximately 95 percent live in poverty when looking solely at income levels.
The Hill attempts to explain the study results by saying "fuel shortages, COVID-19, and not enough job opportunities" are "among the factors contributing to such dramatic poverty" in Venezuela.
Mmhmm. Ya. Sure.
"It is the absence of opportunities," a sociologist worked on the report said. "It is sitting in front of the door of the house, doing nothing, not because you do not want to do anything, but because there is nowhere to do it."
Even as I type this, I can hear the socialist spirits in the air whispering in my ear that Venezuela is one of the bad versions of socialism, and the ever-elusive good version of socialism just hasn't been tried yet.
Let's remember that just a few decades ago, oil-rich Venezuela was one of the wealthiest nations on the planet. After 1999, something changed (more on that in a sec).
Venezuela President Nicolas Maduro's administration has the spicy hot take that it's actually America's fault that Venezuela is in terrible shape.
I'm sure all the wonderful America-hating journalists in the U.S. will go along with that spin.
I'm not sure why those losers are complaining, though. The U.S. recently sent them $336 million in "humanitarian and economic assistance" and Venezuela has received "more than $1.9 billion in financial assistance to the country since 2017," according to The Hill.
Let's stop playing games and say what's really going on here:
SOCIALISM.
This is what socialism does, always has done, and will continue to do. Always.
