MSNBC columnist whines about homeschooling, calls it part of "evangelical war" to "dismantle" public schools

Leftists are shakin' in their boots that homeschooling is booming.

Anthea Butler, an MSNBC Opinion Columnist, published a piece on Thursday titled "How the conservative Christian right is hijacking homeschooling."

I'm not sure why the term "hijacking" is used in the headline. Christians have been involved in homeschooling long time. Is this supposed to scare non-Christians that are enticed by the prospect of homeschooling?

"The [homeschooling] surge has been confirmed by the U.S. Census Bureau, which reported in March that the rate of households homeschooling their children rose to 11% by September 2020, more than doubling from 5.4% just six months earlier," AP reported in July 2021.

AP also reported that "Black households saw the largest jump; their homeschooling rate rose from 3.3% in the spring of 2020 to 16.1% in the fall."

It's not just white "Christian nationalists" that are interested in homeschooling, ladies and gentlemen.

Even Butler admits "Black parents and other diverse groups" are "finding homeschooling as an attractive alternative." That's about all she wants to say about that, though.

It must be a tough reality for leftists to accept.

So, I guess, since public school is so undeniably bad, the only defense leftists can muster is to smear those other cursed forms of education like homeschooling.

Butler claims "the Conservative Christian right has been working hard to dismantle public schooling for years," citing actor Kirk Cameron's upcoming documentary "The Homeschool Awakening" as the latest example of this "evangelical war against public schools."

"Cameron's homeschooling documentary comes at a time of contentious debate about critical race theory, LGBTQ issues, transgender children and Florida's 'Don't Say Gay' law," Butler writes.

"Like the documentary itself, those new laws are designed to weaken already debilitated public school systems that are dealing with limited funding, staffing and violence issues. Attempts by religious conservatives to prohibit certain subjects deemed dangerous or inappropriate are not new, but they are now coming in multiple waves across the country."

As a Christian, American, and strong advocate for Christian education, reading this column feels a bit like reading C.S. Lewis's "The Screwtape Letters." Hearing the "other side" talk about the "Christian Right" and "evangelical war" is actually quite insightful (but also kinda hilarious).

"This dismantling has taken shape over the years in various ways: in segregation academies, in school vouchers, in attempts to dismantle the U.S. Department of Education and even with former President Donald Trump's appointment of Betsy DeVos to lead that department."

"Now that her time in government is done, DeVos is speaking at homeschooling conventions, to promote homeschooling and to disparage critical race theory and other "detriments to education."

School vouchers, LOL!

So, in case you didn't know, Leftism is very mad about you being able to choose where your child goes to school. Leftism is also very angry that you would call Critical Race Theory a detriment to education (because it obviously is).

Government schools don't educate kids "in the nurture and admonition of the Lord" (Eph. 6:4).

That's really what this is all about for Christian parents.

Dismantling the public schools that groom our kids to be atheist, racist, gay, trans, etc. is just part of the bigger goal: children being raised to know and believe that which is true, honorable, just, pure, lovely, commendable, excellent, and worthy of praise (Phil. 4:8).

To the author of this column, I say, "Your terms are acceptable."
