REMINDER: The sound of black holes is nightmare fuel
· Mar 23, 2023 · NottheBee.com

This was trending again so I felt the need to remind you:

We've covered this before, so you might be wondering why in the world I would show you this.

After all, everyone who listens to this feels the exact same way:

But sometimes there's the perfect video that is going viral AND reminds you of the utter terror that's out there in the great dark. It's a great way to remind us all that we're on this beautiful little rock together, no matter how messy it may be.

For those who want to bury the haunting sounds of space demons in some scientific analysis, NASA has helpfully provided us with background as to how this monstrosity came to be:

"The misconception that there is no sound in space originates because most space is a ~ vacuum, providing no way for sound waves to travel.

"A galaxy cluster has so much gas that we've picked up actual sound. Here it's amplified, and mixed with other data, to hear a black hole!" ...

The agency explained that the black hole had been associated with sound since 2003, adding: "This is because astronomers discovered that pressure waves sent out by the black hole caused ripples in the cluster's hot gas that could be translated into a note – one that humans cannot hear some 57 octaves below middle C.

Something interesting to reflect on as you're overwhelmed by the sheer existential horror of it all.
