New York City might require businesses to offer paid time off for people with sick pets (no, this isn't satire)

I'm sure this will help New York City to thrive!

Gotta give people the day off if their little corgi gets a tummy ache.

Seriously, this is not satire. New York City is actually talking about this.

New York City is considering a new law that would allow employees to use paid sick leave to care for ailing pets.

The bill updates the Earned Safe and Sick Time Act, which allows employees time off to take care of themselves or sick family members, but the change would see that start to apply to pets and service animals as well …

The law already provided workers at companies with 100 or more employees up to 56 hours of paid leave for [a] year for illness or injury, or to care for a family member. Those at smaller businesses are entitled to up to 40 hours.

So you won't get any extra time off, you'd just be able to use your pets as an excuse to stay home.

I'm gonna take a wild guess and say a lot of New York City pets are going to start getting sick on Friday mornings if this law becomes reality.
