Zohran Mamdani is HEAVILY favored to be the next mayor of America's largest city.
If you missed it, earlier in October, Mamdani went viral for this post:
The replies were brutal:
Mamdani, an actual, avowed socialist, believes it's a good thing to give into the demands of an unstable fringe minority that will murder you over a $3 bus fare.
This creates more "equity," in his mind, because he's not a logical person who understands how incentives change people's spending or transportation habits (capitalism).
Yes, not charging violent people money will reduce assaults on bus drivers. It will also make the other riders feel less safe.
When people feel less safe (their most important physical need beyond oxygen, food, water, and basic shelter from the elements, they adjust their routines to avoid things that make them feel unsafe. This changes the entire layout of cities.
Mamdani continues to cite a 2025 MTA pilot study with five routes that reported a nearly 40% decline in assaults on bus drivers compared to 20% citywide. The cost of a slight reduction in assaults on bus drivers comes at a staggering cost, however - between $600 and $800 million per year.
Despite all the promises of "free" stuff, the only real explanation for how he will provide is to tax the rich.
How long do you think wealthy New York will pay for everyone else's fare before they realize there's a million other places they could live?
