Sometimes getting people's names mixed up is awkward, and other times it's really funny. Sometimes it's both, as everyone found out when Vice President JD Vance spoke about a recently arrested U.S. senator.
Intending to refer to Senator Alex Padilla, who was arrested following an incident at a press conference given by Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem last week, Vance mistakenly called him "Jose" Padilla.
Democrats, as one would expect, went insane:
Yes, JD Vance went out of his way to be racist by calling a senator by the wrong name. You know, because that's a rational idea.
As it turns out, there was a "Jose" Padilla, who just happened to be a convicted terrorist:
Following the outrage from Democrats over the mix-up, a spokesperson for Vance had a fantastic comeback when questioned about it on CNN:
See? The vice president just confused Jose Padilla (criminal) with Senator Alex Padilla (criminal).
Honest mistake.
