"Linguistic violence": Northwestern cancels musical production because Lincoln assassin uses the N-word

You may think the woke is being put away, the vibe is shifting, and we're returning to sanity.

But I regret to inform you that you forgot about American colleges and universities.

Yes, Northwestern in Chicago has canceled a musical production because one word, in one line, from the bad guy in a play about Lincoln is the forbidden word.

The Stephen Sondheim musical 'Assassins,' which debuted in 1990, includes the use of the n-word by John Wilkes Booth. 'The Ballad of Booth' has a line about an n-word 'lover.' It is a derogatory term the character uses toward President Abraham Lincoln.

We can't have the man who assassinated Abraham Lincoln say a dirty word in a musical that's been around for 35 years! We have to cancel the whole freaking play instead of just removing the "offensive" line.

'We chose a show that contained the n-word, and we failed to engage in meaningful conversations with the Black community,' the theatre group wrote in a statement. 'On Friday [February 28], the show was performed twice with the inclusion of the n-word.'

The use of the n-word is 'violence,' according to a student interviewed by the Daily Northwestern.

I mean, I'm sure Lincoln himself would disagree with this sentiment, but ...
