Andrew Cuomo, AKA Hannibal Cuomo, AKA Andrew Lecter, is a crooked and dishonest man.
Putting aside all the sexual harassment scandals he's currently engulfed in, the Wall Street Journal broke last night that Cuomo's people straight up changed a public July report by state health officials in order to conceal the huge number of nursing home residents who died from Covid in New York due to Cuomo's awful leadership:
The July report, which examined the factors that led to the spread of the virus in nursing homes, focused only on residents who died inside long-term-care facilities, leaving out those who had died in hospitals after becoming sick in nursing homes. As a result, the report said 6,432 nursing-home residents had died—a significant undercount of the death toll attributed to the state's most vulnerable population, the people said. The initial version of the report said nearly 10,000 nursing-home residents had died in New York by July last year, one of the people said.
The changes Mr. Cuomo's aides and health officials made to the nursing-home report, which haven't been previously disclosed, reveal that the state possessed a fuller accounting of out-of-facility nursing-home deaths as early as the summer. The Health Department resisted calls by state and federal lawmakers, media outlets and others to release the data for another eight months.
State officials now say more than 15,000 residents of nursing homes and other long-term-care facilities were confirmed or presumed to have died from Covid-19 since March of last year—counting both those who died in long-term-care facilities and those who died later in hospitals. That figure is about 50% higher than earlier official
death tolls.
Now, WHY exactly were nursing home deaths so high in New York? Because Hannibal Cuomo himself put a freaking policy in place from late March through May FORCING nursing homes to accept coronavirus-positive patients after they were discharged from hospitals.
As you know, by FAR those most susceptible population to dying from corona is elderly people. By FAR. They are the ones who need to be protected the MOST. And Cuomo's stupid policy obviously caused the virus to spread through nursing homes like fire through dry grass.
The New York Times reports the coverup efforts were underway before federal authorities requested the data, and just as Cuomo began writing a book touting his pandemic leadership achievements. The rewritten report, which concealed the number of deaths and found that Cuomo's policies were not at fault for the nursing home death toll, was released just four days before the governor announced he was working on a book.
So very sad! And unbelievable. And reprehensible!
Imagine if your grandparent had died in a New York nursing home! And you knew it was BECAUSE of Cuomo's stupidity, and then on top of that, they changed reports to make it seem like your grandparent did NOT die in a nursing home ... just to cover for Cuomo!
