Ohio's Republican governor vetoed a Republican bill from the Republican majority that would protect kids from being surgically altered in the name of transgenderism

Make it make sense.

Ah, yes, that "transition-related care."

Gov. Mike DeWine's veto makes him one of only two Republican governors to veto a restriction on gender-affirming care, alongside Arkansas Gov. Asa Hutchinson in 2021, and one of only three Republican governors to veto a trans athlete bill after Utah Gov. Spencer Cox and Indiana Gov. Eric Holcomb last year.

In a press conference on Friday following his veto, DeWine said the "gut-wrenching" decision about whether a minor should have access to gender-affirming care "should not be made by the government, should not be made by the state of Ohio," rather it should be made by the child's parents and doctors.

Ah, okay.

So on one hand, we hear that parents can be abusers and so we need to protect kids by, say, hiding information from the parents. If my daughter wants to be a boy at school, the school will hide it from me for the "safety" of my child. Gotta make sure we've got child services handy as well in case I teach my kids anything from the Bible.

But on the other hand, parents should also be trusted without question, even if they want to pay a doctor to cut off their daughter's breasts and inject her full of testosterone that will irrevocably change her body and likely cause permanent health issues (like osteoporosis).

"We're dealing with children who are going through a challenging time, families that are going through a challenging time," he said. "I want, the best I can, to get it right."

Cool, so err on the side of butchering kids.

Ah, modern Republicanism.

Oh, the bill also protected girls and women from men who want access to their sports and locker rooms.

Can't wait till 2033 when "conservative" squishes like DeWine explain, with great posterity, that it would be improper in a pluralistic society not to allow parents to surgically alter their kids to look like animals, or to let students who identify as cats use litter boxes, or to give pedophiles access to children.

Republican lawmakers should be able to override the veto, but, well, we're talking about Republicans.

I'll leave you with the thoughts of a young woman who was transitioned as an impressionable kid and had no one with a backbone to stand up for her ๐Ÿ‘‡
