The Christmas Lights In This Scottish Town Are Designed By Kids and It's Just The Sweetest Thing

Newburgh in Fife, Scotland has a fun twist on the traditional Christmas lights along their streets.

There's no uniform snowflakes for them. Instead, they opt for custom Christmas light designs submitted by local school children:

I can just imagine the excitement of a primary schooler when they see their picture illuminated on the streets of their town! I hope more of them pick up on this tradition because it's the sweetest thing.

The competition has been going on since 2002, taking a brief intermission in 2020. To make up for the lost year, the committee gave out an additional prize for the best 2020 themed design.

Props to the girl who won that contest for going the optimistic route:

I'm really just relieved that it wasn't another toilet paper-themed decoration (if you have a toilet paper ornament to commemorate 2020 I do not want to hear it)!
