You may remember Wally, the emotional support gator in Philly.
In an embarrassing turn of events, Wally and his owner, Joie Henney, were denied entry to a Phillies vs. Pittsburg game.
Sure, the stadium's policy on support animals on the Phillies' official website clearly states: "Certified service dogs or service dogs in training for guests with special needs are welcome. All other animals are prohibited."
But come on, Wally is harmless - tough exterior but a true sweetheart at his core! (At least, as long as he's well-fed)
Plus, he's famous! ๐คฉ
Wally's got over 26,000 on Instagram and over 110,000 followers on TikTok. So you bet your bottom dollar you'll hear outrage over this! (Including from yours truly.)
Wally's rejection at the entrance sparked parallels with the renowned "Curse of the Billy Goat" associated with the Chicago Cubs.
Back in 1945, William Sianis cast a hex on the Cubs after he and his goat were barred from entering a World Series match at Wrigley Field. Filled with anger over being unable to witness his cherished Cubs in action, Sianis cursed the team, proclaiming that they would never achieve victory in another World Series.
Chicago didn't even make it to another World Series for 71 years. It took all the way until 2016 before they won their first championship victory in 108 years.
I want to get on the record to officially demand a public apology from the Phillies and have them invite Wally and Joie back as their guests of honor at the next home game.
And yes, of course, I can see how ridiculous it is to claim an alligator is an emotional support animal, but the world is a crazy place, and if Wally brings Joie support (and keeps him on a leash), then I am all for it.
As I said, just keep him well-fed, please...
