My friends, I don't care how loud a man's snoring is, you gotta figure out something better than this:
A Pennsylvania man who fatally stabbed his neighbor over the defendant's loud snoring has been sentenced to nearly a year in jail.
Christopher Casey, 56, of the Philadelphia suburb of Upper Moreland was hit with the prison sentence after he apologized in court to victim Robert Wallace's family and pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter.
The fatal incident occurred in January when Wallace confronted Casey at the duo's duplex in Upper Moreland. Wallace had reportedly been complaining about Casey's snoring for months
The Philadelphia Inquirer reported that Wallace had allegedly "been unable to sleep due to the excessive noise" and that the resultant fatigue "had affected his life and ability to work."
Casey, meanwhile, reportedly has autism, which affected his ability to deal with the situation.
Tragically, it looked like the protracted conflict was coming to something of a resolution before the stabbing:
On Jan. 14, Wallace walked over to Casey's house, knocked on his window and yelled that he was going to kill him, Casey told police in an interview. Wallace then ripped the screen off the window and pushed it open, arguing with Casey for about 20 minutes through the window.
Casey told police that Wallace eventually calmed down, and offered to shake his hand and pay for corrective surgery to help curb his neighbor's snoring, the affidavit said.
Yet Casey wasn't convinced; he told police he "believed Wallace wasn't being genuine and feared that Wallace was going to attack him." So he armed himself with a knife and stabbed Wallace to death.
As part of the plea deal, Casey is "allowed to be freed after 8½ months in jail, of which he has one month left to serve."
