During a recent flight from Taiwan to Bangkok, Thai pilot Jakarin Sararnrakskul had the unusual opportunity to assist a passenger when she unexpectedly went into labor during the 4-hour international flight.
If you're anything like me, your first thought while reading that is:
WHO WAS FLYING THE PLANE?!
But don't worry, there was a co-pilot at the controls.
My second thought?
WHY IS THE PILOT THE MOST QUALIFIED PERSON TO DELIVER A BABY ON THE PLANE?
Was there no doctor or nurse on board? Heck, if I were that mom, I would have preferred the female co-pilot to help me. She's probably at least had a baby herself.
But that aside, the pilot apparently did a great job in his role, despite only knowing basic first aid skills. The baby was born safely, and by the time the plane landed in Bangkok, paramedics were waiting to take both baby and mother to the hospital, where they are doing well.
The pilot said this was a first in his 18 years as a pilot. He told local news,
I feel so proud that I could help to bring him into the world.
He also posted pictures to his personal Instagram:
He couldn't look prouder if he were the father!
