The Algonquian princess, Elizabeth Warren, has spoken, and the filibuster has officially been deemed racist. There's no denying her opinion on this subject, since it's obviously based on her lived experience as a 1/1024th Native American.
In an interview with Axios, Warren said,
"The filibuster has deep roots in racism, and it should not be permitted to serve that function, or to create a veto for the minority. In a democracy, it's majority rules."
But isn't she advocating for minorities to rule? Oh, different kind of minority. And should we even bother correcting the "in a democracy" statement anymore? Yes, yes we should. America is a democratic republic, so the pure majority doesn't rule. But Democrats like Warren have been eager to change that for a long time.
President Biden indicated earlier this week that he is open to reforming filibuster rules, but hasn't yet jumped on the abolish the filibuster bus.
