A high school student in Baltimore was sitting with his friends, minding his own business when a bunch of police officers showed up and threw him in handcuffs.

Why?

He had Doritos on his person.

More specifically, the school's AI system flagged his bag of Doritos as a gun and called the police.

‘It was like eight cop cars that came pulling up for us. At first, I didn't know where they were going until they started walking toward me with guns, talking about, "Get on the ground," and I was like, "What?"' Taki Allen told WBAL.

‘I was just holding a Doritos bag — it was two hands and one finger out, and they said it looked like a gun.'

Can we all take a moment and appreciate that the kid who was handcuffed for having Doritos is named Taki?

🤣🤣🤣

Here's some body cam footage for ya:

Last year, Baltimore schools began using AI company OmniAlert to flag potential shooters at the school using the school's existing camera systems.

The school issued a statement with a non-apology to the poor kid who's orange stained hands were cuffed behind his back.

We understand how upsetting this was for the individual that was searched as well as the other students who witnessed the incident. Our counselors will provide direct support to the students who were involved in this incident and are also available to speak with any student who may need support.

Please know that ensuring the safety of our students and school community is one of our highest priorities. We work closely with Baltimore County police to ensure that we can promptly respond to any potential safety concerns, and it is essential that we all work together to maintain a safe and welcoming environment for all Kenwood High School students and staff.

In other words, get used to it, Baltimore students.

Omnialert refused to make any comments about the incident saying that they did not comment on school policies or apparently bugs in their system.

I for one find these sorts of events very worrisome — especially when you consider how much the military is incorporating AI into its response systems.

Let's just hope some Chinese General out there doesn't decide to eat Doritos while our spy satellites are watching.
