PAY UP LOUISVILLE!
The city of Louisville, Kentucky settled with Officer Matthew Schrenger agreeing to pay $75,000 after he was suspended by the Louisville Metro Police Department last year for praying outside the EMW Women's Surgical Center. The weenies on staff claimed Schrenger intimidated people in the facility with his uniform and gun.
Intimidated? Hmm, that's odd. He's not the one murdering babies, is he?
Schrenger was in his uniform but off-duty as he "stopped to pray with his father before work," WDRB News reports. He was also seen holding a sign that said "Pray to end abortion."
Schrenger filed a lawsuit against the city in October, claiming constitutional and civil rights violations.
Thomas More Society said the city's "quick offer" implies the city "knows it committed a significant and inexcusable violation of a loyal officer's constitutional rights."
"The treatment of Officer Schrenger was particularly galling considering other Louisville police officers previously had marched, while on-duty and in uniform, in political protests that apparently were approved by the police department," Heffron said.
Senior counsel Matt Heffron with Thomas More Society said Schrenger was "treated very differently than others who had undeniably engaged in true political protest and activism while participating in LGBT and Black Lives Matter demonstrations."
What a surprise.
"The unfair discipline revealed undeniably content-based discrimination against Officer Schrenger's personal pro-life views and violated his First Amendment rights," Heffron stated.
I suspect all the good Libertarians reading would still chalk this up as a loss because the city will pay for this with other people's money anyway. No skin off their back!
