Repeat after me: Don't rely on the polls. Don't rely on the polls. Don't rely on the polls.
But this poll is from BEFORE Trump's conviction!
Alright, now that we've got that outta the way, Roanoke College has released a new poll from the Commonwealth of Virginia showing Donald Trump tied with President Biden.
Biden won Virginia by double digits last time around.
In this poll, Trump and Biden are tied at 42% of the vote, but if you add in third-party candidates, Biden ends up with a two-point lead.
Respondents are more likely to view the Trump years as mostly good for the country (44% mostly good; 33% mostly bad), and they see the Biden years more negatively (25% mostly good; 47% mostly bad). Republicans are very enthusiastic about the Trump years (87% see them as mostly good), while half (50%) of Democrats think of Biden's years as mostly good.
Again, the Trump campaign needs to be "Are you better off now than you were 4 years ago?"-maxxing (as the kids say) from here to November.
That's how you wake people up and that's how you win.
If polls consistently show Trump ahead in swing states, and competitive in non-swing states, even before the end of his court troubles, expect Democrats to pull out all of the stops between now and November.
That means campaigning, convicting, AND "fortifying."
