If you're planning on eating any Rum Balls this Holiday Season, better bring along a designated driver.
Poor Tommy Keefe, of Perth, Australia, learned that the hard way.
He attended a party where he enjoyed the many treats laid out on the table, including the holiday classic, Rum Balls.
He enjoyed them so much, he took a few with him for the road.
Enter the sirens and lights.
Keefe was pulled over for erratic driving and promptly breathalyzed. He tested 0.038 — 0.018 over the Perth legal limit.
"I was still eating them," he said at the time he was pulled over, "very confident that I was going to pass. Turns out I didn't."
He plead guilty and was given a reduced sentence of 3 months suspended license and a minimum fine.
And according to Perth doctor Joe Kosterich, the breath test was probably not entirely accurate,
"A breath test is a proxy for blood alcohol levels. If this person had a blood-alcohol level taken I suspect their levels would have been undetectable,"
In case you wanna whip up some extra holiday cheer, here's a recipe from Southern Living.
But you might wanna consider cutting off your guests after two or three.
