I mean, if conservatives are unwilling to ban porn entirely, at least we have a great first step!
Individual states have been enacting laws requiring the pornography giant PornHub to use ID to verify user age so that kids can't log on to the hardcore pornography site.
In response, PornHub shuts down their site in those states. And it's just happened five more times.
More than 18 million Americans living in five states are set to join Pornhub's growing banned list due to lawmakers rolling out age restriction laws.
Kentucky lost access on June 10, while Indiana, Idaho and Kansas will be blocked on June 28th and Nebraska on July 17th.
PornHub is a juggernaut in the pornography world. And, while there are unfortunately millions of other places to get porn, this commonsense measure is necessary to protect kids from the pornographic content on the world's largest porn site.
The recent announcement brings the total number of blocked states to 12, with Texas, North Carolina, Montana, Mississippi, Virginia, Arkansas and Utah previously losing accesses.
When users in the banned states attempt to access Pornhub they will be see '403 - This state is not whitelisted.' A 403 code means a website is forbidden.
Man, if your state is NOT on this list, what are you doing? You should make every effort to have your state blacklisted by the pornographers.
Pornographers shouldn't be welcome in your state.
Said pornographers have their counterargument, of course.
Opponents have argued that age verification laws for adult websites not only infringe upon free speech, but also threaten digital privacy because it's impossible to ensure that websites don't retain user identification data.
'States are attempting to do an end run around the First Amendment by outsourcing censorship to citizens,' said Alison Boden, the executive director of Free Speech Coalition said in 2023.
'It's a new mechanism, but a deeply flawed one. Government attempts to chill speech, no matter the method, are prohibited by the Constitution and decades of legal precedent.'
We've covered all this before. Porn isn't speech. It's obscenity and ought to be banned.
Good on these five states for standing up to the porn giants.
