Welp, our president has recognized a national emergency that is great enough that he's going to tap into our nation's emergency oil reserves.
The emergency?
He's losing in the polls.
The Biden administration said Tuesday that it is releasing 1 million barrels of gasoline from a Northeast reserve established after Superstorm Sandy in a bid to lower prices at the pump this summer.
Man, imagine the trouble this guy would have saved himself if he didn't target the American gas industry on literal Day 1 in office.
The sale, from storage sites in New Jersey and Maine, will be allocated in increments of 100,000 barrels at a time. The approach will create a competitive bidding process that ensures gasoline can flow into local retailers ahead of the July 4 holiday and sold at competitive prices, the Energy Department said. The move is intended to help "lower costs for American families and consumers,″ the department said in a statement.
Weird. Every time Biden needs to look good, he releases more of our emergency supplies to artificially decrease prices for a few days.
From 2022:
Because of course.
Gas prices average about $3.60 per gallon nationwide as of Tuesday, up 6 cents from a year ago, according to AAA. Tapping gasoline reserves is one of the few actions a president can take by himself to try to control inflation, an election year liability for the party in control of the White House.
Even the AP in this story is admitting that this is aimed at controlling inflation and making the economy look better than it is because it's "an election year liability."
Just so you understand, the Strategic Petroleum Reserve is there in case our country is hit by some massive threat, like war or natural disaster, that keeps oil from being produced. Without oil, our entire civilization grinds to a halt. No one can make anything, go anywhere, heat their homes, or cool their food.
Trump refilled the reserves, giving us over 40 days of supply to run the nation in case of a disaster. Biden has now repeatedly drained it to disastrous levels.
This is the level as of May 10:
For a wider perspective:
Sure, I'm thankful for lower prices, but tapping into the emergency supply so that people will think Biden made oil prices cheaper?
Deranged.
