It's very obvious from the tone of this story, that that the media thinks we're supposed to be scandalized by this police shooting.
Look at this headline:
An unarmed Denver man who was shot and killed by Denver police just over a week ago had a magic marker in his hand.
Denver Police Chief Ron Thomas told The Denver Gazette Monday that the officer who shot 36-year-old Brandon Cole thought that the marker was a knife but that Cole "was in essence unarmed, and that makes this tough."
Oh, it's "tough?" Yeah, not really.
Other outlets like CNN are coming in with headlines like this:
Which were taken by their readers to the natural conclusions CNN wanted them to reach:
Let's review the facts from this case:
- Police were called to the scene in response to a domestic violence report. They received word that the suspect, Brandon Cole, may have been drunk.
- At some point before the police showed up, Cole reportedly dumped his wife from a wheelchair and then began assaulting his 13-year-old son.
- When police showed up, they attempted to de-escalate the situation. Cole, however, did not de-escalate.
Here is the age-restricted footage of the incident (violence and language warning):
You can very clearly see Cole in the footage refusing to obey officer commands, reaching his hand behind his back while shouting "LET'S GO" at one cop.
Footage from the other officer makes the threatening context even more clear:
The stance, the hands in the waistband, the yelling โ it's textbook "I'm Getting Ready to Shoot a Cop" behavior. The technical term for this is "picking." A violent person will often exhibit behavior where they tug or pick their clothes, skin, nose, etc. before they move in to strike.
Both police officers in this footage attempt very calmly to de-escalate: They address Cole by his first name, they tell him to stop, they say very clearly: "Listen to what I'm saying." "Look at me. Stop!"
Cole did not stop. And when he saw the female officer and ran toward her, his ill intent was absolutely unmistakable.
They call it the "21-foot rule" because it takes just over two seconds for a man with a knife to cover that amount of ground to stab you. If a hostile attacker is within that range, you may not be alive by the time you fire your gun (anyone who thinks knife wounds aren't serious has never seen a knife wound compared to a 9mm wound). I have never met anyone who completes a force-on-force training with this scenario who still believes in the media's narratives.
See how Cole raises his hands in front of him as if he's gripping a pistol? That gesture is universal. We all know what it means. Only the media wants you to disbelieve your eyes in favor of some racist narrative.
The officer's only arguable mistake in this case was firing when two innocent bystanders were in back of the suspect โ although the mother in the video behaved with inexcusable stupidity in not immediately getting her child out of the line of danger when the police first showed up.
In short, this was a textbook justified use-of-force from this police officer. No question. The fact that it's become national news is just bizarre.
Let's hope the far-left city of Denver doesn't try and prosecute the officer for shooting a man under completely understandable circumstances.
