Putin quoted Jesus to justify his invasion of Ukraine and I REALLY think we need to send a theologian over there to explain things to him

Forget sneaking an assassin into Putin's bedroom. We need to send a theologically sound theologian with a passion for the inerrancy of God's Word to explain things pronto to ol' Vlad.

Yes, John 15:13 does say that there is no greater love than laying down your life for a friend, but there's a tiny bit of context that's important here.

Jesus is telling his disciples in this passage about how He is going to die (although they don't realize it), commanding them to love one another as He has loved them and to remain in Him (even though He goes on to detail how the world will hate them because of their devotion).

If He, as God in flesh, no longer calls those who follow him "servants" but calls them "friends" โ€“ and died a horribly unjust and gruesome death for their sins โ€“ how much more are we to love other people and lay down our lives for them?

Somehow I don't think invading Ukraine fits that criteria!!

Even if Vlad's perspective is just that Russia is protecting Russian minorities in Ukraine.

To be fair tho, I should also point out that the American warhawks might need a visit from a theologian as well!
