Quebec police don't want residents to post videos of people stealing packages because the porch pirates might be innocent

Looks like another bright sunshiny day to be a Canadian, ey? Especially if you're a Canadian porch pirate, because apparently the authorities are on your side when you get caught red handed with that Amazon box in your hands.

Seriously, listen to this Quebec police officer tell his citizens not to post videos of porch pirates because this might be grounds for defamation.

You cannot post the images yourself because you have to remember that in Canada we have a presumption of innocence and that posting that picture could be a violation of private life …

If you get some proof that somebody might have stolen something then call the police, give the proof to the police, and then we'll do the investigation, we'll bring that person to justice, and we'll file some charges.

Bro, what am I supposed to do, pixelate the person's face to protect their identity?

Are we that dumb in Canada?

Seriously, if I saw this segment of the news on my television I'd throw that television right out the window. And then I'd get in my car and drive south for as long as it took to reach the border.

Such an embarrassing example of policing here. Like, this dude is literally telling us that porch pirates have private lives and if we put them on blast on the internet for being porch pirates — even if we're simply trying to warn our fellow citizens — it might be us, the person who's had their package stolen, who gets in trouble.

Man, it must be so embarrassing to be a Canadian.
