The Episcopal Church released official statistics in November, showing a decline in membership and attendance below "pre-COVID-19" levels in 2021.
Baptized members in the denomination decreased from 1.736 million members in 2020 to 1.678 million in 2021, approximately a 58,000-person difference.
Average Sunday attendance declined from 483,000 attendees in 2020 to 321,000 in 2021.
Financial giving increased by over 3% in the same time period, however, according to the Episcopal News Service (ENS).
"The number of active baptized members, though down by more than 3% for the second straight year, is nearly in line with recent historical trends, showing a more gradual decline that is mirrored by other mainline Protestant denominations," ENS said.
"The pandemic, meanwhile, did not halt the ongoing trend of rising pledges," ENS said. "The average Episcopal pledge increased in 2021 to $3,339, and overall plate and pledge income was up more than 3% for the year."
