This is the lay of the land in the mayoral race for America's largest city:
On Monday, immense pressure mounted from the media, conservative pundits, and Republican backers for the GOP candidate, Curtis Sliwa, to drop out of the race and endorse Andrew Cuomo in order to save the city from socialist Muslim migrant Zohran Mamdani, whose policies can be described as AOC or Bernie Sanders on steroids.
In theory, such an endorsement would allow the race to be neck-and-neck instead of splitting the votes.
Sliwa, however, has emphasized his refusal to back out.
Some right-wing accounts were very upset:
Here we are in the Year of Our Lord 2025, a mere 5 years after Andrew Cuomo oversaw one of the most corrupt, most authoritarian, most bungled responses to Covid as governor of New York ... and then was ousted from office over a sex scandal ... and now right-wingers are cheering him on as the last hope for the Big Apple??
Other conservatives said the calls for the Republican candidate to drop out because of the stupidity of the Democratic Party is, well, stupid.
Many questions remain:
If Cuomo dropped out, would his voters shift to Sliwa, or would the majority vote for Mamdani, considering he is the official Democratic nominee?
Likewise, if Sliwa dropped out, would his voters (blue-collar men, in particular) actually vote for Cuomo, or would they stay home?
How much longer can generational Americans even maintain control of New York City, given local leaders' obsession with being a "sanctuary" city?
Demographics is destiny, and demographics are trending hard toward Muslim/Marxist leaders, with far less support for traditional liberals or even moderate conservatives among migrant populations.
