The world just lost the goodest of good boys.
Utah's famous "porn sniffing" police dog URL (yes, that was his name) passed away on December 30 just shy of his eighth birthday, a Facebook post from the Weber County Sheriff's Office confirmed.

URL's cause of death was not yet released, but we know he was in the care of his original handler, Detective Cameron Hartman of the Webster County Attorney's Office.
URL was dubbed the "porn-sniffing dog" by the police department because, as an Electronic Storage Detection Canine, he could literally sniff out the child porn in the homes of sickos.
This doggo worked on over 2,000 search warrants and spent his life putting perverts and pedophiles in jail – sniffing out countless pieces of digital evidence that led to the arrests of creeps implicated in child sexual abuse and pornography cases.
After spending his entire life in service, URL retired less than a year ago, in January 2022.
He was taken from us too soon.

The Weber County Sheriff's Office detailed some of URL's most impressive work in a Facebook post:
Finding a USB drive disguised as a key on a keyring full of keys, finding a micro-SD card in a closed baby jar that was in a small pencil box full of items that was also placed in a large cedar chest full of miscellaneous items, an SD Card that was high on a shelf in a St. George, Utah residence, a cell phone hidden in a book, and even cell phone parts that were hidden in a wall behind a toilet in the Weber County Jail.
URL's porn-sniffing, pedo-catching ability made him famous for good reason, but he wasn't born into this will a silver bowl by his feet – URL was an underdog who no one thought would succeed.

URL wasn't bred initially as a police dog. He was passed around from pound to pound. He had actually earned a reputation of being "untrainable" until someone eventually noticed his unique talent and affinity for busting pedophiles and finally got him some proper training.
Throughout his years on the force, URL and his handler worked with nearly every local law enforcement department, as well as state and federal agencies, including the Utah Attorney General's" Office Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force, the FBI's Federal Child Exploitation Task Force, and the US Department of Homeland Security.
URL spent the last remaining months of his life with Detective Hartman.
What a privilege it was to serve alongside you. ‘URL' my heart is broken and still filled with so many memories and emotions. I am so lucky to have been able to get to know you and serve the citizens of Utah and its surrounding states with you.
RIP, buddy.
