ROMANS GONNA ROME:

This 42-foot-tall statue of Emperor Constantine was just unveiled in the city of Rome. A recreation of the Colossus lost to time, history, and vandals over the centuries.

If this isn't a sign that things are turning, I don't know what is.

The 42-foot-tall statue of Constantine, who was proclaimed emperor in York after the death of his father and transferred the imperial capital from Rome to Constantinople, was unveiled on Tuesday on top of the Campidoglio, a prominent hill in the heart of the Italian capital.

Experts made 3D scans of the 10 surviving fragments of the ancient statue, including its head, feet and a hand. The project was funded by Prada, but the costs have remained under wraps.

It's just so nice to see a statue of a great man being put up instead of torn down.

The experts were able to take fragments discovered in the 15th Century in an ancient Roman temple and with 3D scans they recreated the new statue as the closest we could possibly come to an exact replica of the 4th Century statue.

It's truly a stunning work of art and history.

The biggest white pill of my day.

'After scanning the original ten fragments we had to understand how they all fit together exactly, for example how the foot fitted onto the shin,' said Mr Lowe.

The original statue of Constantine may have been reworked from a statue to the Roman god Jupiter after it was struck by lightning in the 3rd century.

Roberto Gualtieri, the mayor of Rome, attended the presentation of the reconstruction.

'It shows how modern technology can recuperate the masterpieces of the past,' he said.

'Until now, no one had ever tried to understand the relationship between the different fragments.'

Constantine, one of the greatest of emperors, had finally come home, he said. 'This is one of the most important places in the world, not just for the history of Rome but for the history of humanity.'

A great tribute to a great Roman ruler, and a reminder of the man who established a little-known sect of "little Christs" as the official religion and moral framework of the land.

Guys, we are so back.
