Pat Sajak is perhaps the greatest game show host in television history. He's classy, funny, sharp, on-point, friendly, competent. He's got it all.
Ryan Seacrest, on the other hand, is, well, you know, he's okay. There's nothing really wrong with him. But, I mean, as a replacement for Sajak? Really?
Following "Wheel of Fortune" host Pat Sajak's announcement Monday that he plans to retire from the long-running game show after next season, there is speculation over who might replace the 76-year-old.
Ubiquitous host Ryan Seacrest is among several people being considered for his replacement by "Wheel of Fortune" owner Sony Group Corp, Bloomberg reported, citing sources familiar with the matter.
"Ubiquitous?" Ryan Seacrest is the host of a show called "Ubiquitous?"
There's a special kind of irony there. Okay okay, I'm not trying to be mean. Seacrest is fine. He'd do a fine job. The hesitancy here really has to do less with a new host and more with the fact that Pat Sajak is essentially irreplaceable and will be very much missed.
How long has the great man been hosting Wheel, you ask? Longer than you think:
With Sajak returning for his 36th season in 2018 – 19, he became the longest-running host of any game show, surpassing Bob Barker, who hosted The Price Is Right from 1972 to 2007. Sajak was officially honored as such by the Guinness World Records with the episode taped on March 28, 2019, and aired May 8, 2019 (two days before the primetime version's 7,000th episode)
We'll miss you Pat, but you've earned your retirement several thousand times over!
