Say hello to China's "low-cost, meat-like" fungus meant to replace chicken

What do you get when you combine vegans, commies, and mad scientists?

Well, this:

As the South China Morning Post reports,

Chinese scientists have genetically modified a fungus commonly used in the production of meat substitutes to make it an even more environmentally friendly source of protein than chicken - one of the farmed animals that has the least impact on the environment.

Me when I'm offered this "meat substitute" for dinner:

The research team used "CRISPR-based gene editing to modify Fusarium venenatum, improving its production efficiency and reducing its environmental impact without introducing foreign DNA."

I don't know what any of that means but it sounds really gross.

A few reactions:

If this technology becomes more widespread, the fake meat bros are going to be working to outlaw real food and cram this bio-genetic junk right down our throats.

But it's worth pointing out that some governments are getting ahead of the insanity, even if only in small ways:

Start praying that the WEF doesn't hear about this fungus though. They LOVE anything made in a Chinese lab!
