Scientists confirm July was the hottest year ever recorded in the Earth’s [checks notes] 173-year-long history

So glad we have scientists to make these bombshell discoveries for us.

The EU's Copernicus Climate Change Service (C3S) said Tuesday that the global average surface air temperature in July was confirmed to be the highest on record for any month.

July was found to be a whopping 1.5 degrees Celsius warmer than the average for the 1850-1900 period and 0.33 degrees Celsius warmer than the previous warmest month of July 2019.

Hmm. So these records go back all the way to 1850.

That's just over 170 years.

How old is the Earth again?

(Feel free to start arguments in the comments, old-earth and young-earth creationists!)

Well, I guess it's good enough for climate scientists. A low bar, but whatever. Although we're not even talking just straight-up raw temperature rises here; we're talking about a deviation from the "average" temperature of 1850-1900.

So scientists here just took a random stretch of baseline years and applied that standard to present-day temperatures. Got it. That sounds totally convincing, doesn't it? Don't you want to give up your lifesaving, indispensable fossil fuels now?

No? Not yet? Well, buckle up my friends, because they're going to be laying it on even thicker than ever in the coming years:

"The only surprise is the speed of the change. Climate change is here. It is terrifying, and it is just the beginning."

"TERRIFYING."
