Scientists from the Max Planck Institute for Evolutionary Anthropology in Leipzig published a study in Nature suggesting castration and sterilization could extend lifespans in mammals up to 10%.

And I don't know about the rest of you, but I'd rather die young than follow these scientists' idea for carving a few more years out of life.

The study looked at 117 mammal species held in captivity at zoos around the world. Mammals that had been castrated or medically sterilized lived longer than their reproducing counter parts.

‘This study shows that the energetic costs of reproduction have measurable and sometimes considerable consequences for survival across mammals,' says Fernando Colchero, one of the study's senior authors. ‘Reducing reproductive investment may allow more energy to be directed toward longevity.'

And some of those differences appeared quite large.

For example, female hamadryas baboons taking hormonal contraception lived 29 percent longer, and males who had lost their bits lived 19 percent longer.

For female mammals, any kind of contraception seemed to increase their lifespan, but for males, the increase in lifespan was only related to castration.

‘This indicates that the effect stems from eliminating testosterone and its influence on core aging pathways, particularly during early-life development. The largest benefits occur when castration happens early in life,' he says.

The researchers were quick to point out that the results aren't so easily relatable to humans, but the reasons they give seem a little odd.

Data on the effects of castration and sterilization in humans is rare.

And yet, it's not.

Thanks to all the trans-phoria of the last few years, it took me mere seconds to find recently published data on the effects of castration and sterilization on human lifespans.

Both negatively correlated.

It turns out humans that get sterilized or castrated don't live as long as those who stay the way the Lord made them.

In fact, there are numerous studies that show that people who have kids live longer than their childless counterparts.

Even if it did result in shorter lifespans, your impact will span more than just your generation.

Just another reminder that people are not animals, and children are a blessing from the Lord.
