The Willacy Co. Livestock Show and Fair Facebook group, based out of Raymondville, Texas, is now dedicated to a missing goat.
Willy the Rodeo Goat has been missing since July 15 after it escaped from a pen in the county's rodeo arena following a youth rodeo.
And this missing goat is really bringing the community together!
Residents are out scouring cotton and sugar cane fields on foot, horses, ATVs, and cars and are using drones to search for Willy - - they are even considering bringing out a helicopter to help with the search mission!
Almost 90 prizes and gifts, valued at over $5,000, have been generously contributed by local businesses for whoever finds the goat. These enticing rewards include delicious brisket, stunning frescoes, and luxurious salon services.
And yes, they even made T-shirts!
Alison Savage, president of the Willacy County Livestock Show and Fair, spoke to the Associated Press, which has made the goat "Willy Willy famous!"
This has just gotten bigger than we ever dreamed. Our county is a really small county, about 20,000 population and a mostly agriculture, farming and ranching community. And we're very much one big family ... So, we're excited that everybody wants to find our goat.
According to Savage, when the goat first went missing, it didn't even have a name, but that needed to change with all this attention! So, with a quick FB poll, the goat was dubbed Willy, short for Willacy County (even though they aren't exactly sure if Willy is a boy or a girl).
There have been numerous sightings of the goat, but no one'saren't been lucky and quick enough to catch him yet!
But at least Willy the Goat seems to be alive and well.
Ever since the search began, the livestock show has garnered considerable attention, resulting in a surge of donations dedicated to improving the nonprofit's arena and other facilities.
He's hiding from us somewhere. But we're getting closer. We're going to find him.
