Okay, this is a little ridiculous.
Simpsons producer Rick Polizzi built this amazing treehouse 25 years ago with help from a friend.
The treehouse is said to be inspired by the one in the Simpsons' backyard, and this guy literally had it built for his daughters to play in. He also shared it with anyone who wanted to stop by and check it out.
The property was also home to a free Halloween attraction called "Boney Island," which was cherished by locals.
But now the City of Los Angles wants Polizzi to get a permit for the treehouse, claiming that it is an accessory dwelling unit (ADU) and needs more government regulation. Polizzi has complied with the city in the past, but this was the last straw.

He seriously tore the thing down to avoid more conflict with the government!
The government:

More on the story:
The city shut down the treehouse in 2017 after it received complaints from some neighbors. Since then, Polizzi said he's done his best to obtain permits and comply with city demands to keep his treehouse. The latest and final blow to his creation came after the city said it considered it an ADU which prompted a criminal pre-trial against the homeowner and ultimately made him walk away.
‘It'll go to a landfill and then I'll get the charges dropped but we've already spent over $50,000,' he said. ‘Going to court would be another $20 to $30,000. The city said they're going after me for their court costs so I'm not doing that. I just need to take it down and be done with it.'
So the treehouse has been demolished and the city will no longer be collecting money from Polizzi.
This does beg the question, however...
Without the government, who would regulate 25-year-old Simpsons-themed tree houses out of existence?
I'll leave you this news coverage from last year which gives a little tour of the treehouse:
