Devastating reports out of North Carolina this morning:

[Chimney Rock] is destroyed. [Lake Lure] dam is in danger of imminent collapse... Mandatory evacuation ordered, but we are flooded in with no way off the mountain (above water, so no immediate danger). National Guard deployed to Banner Elk because 100% of their drinking water is now contaminated. Power out, with no likelihood of getting it back on for weeks/months. Power lines and trees all over the roads.

For those of you unfamiliar with it, Chimney Rock is a picturesque village in the western part of the state with a population of just a few dozen.

It gets its name from the towering rock monolith in nearby Chimney Rock State Park.

There were reports that the nearby Lake Lure dam was in imminent danger of collapse, which may have finished the job of completely wiping out Chimney Rock.

But thankfully it sounds like the dam itself may be holding:

Other parts of the state and the south, meanwhile, were also hit hard by flooding:

Pray for these folks. They're going to need it.
