Remember how millions watched AOC do an Instagram livestream where she re-enacted the horrors of the Capitol riot earlier this month, breaking down on camera as she talked about her brush with certain death?
Remember how the story broke that AOC wasn't even in the Capitol at the time of the riot, and how the "mob" coming for her were actually law enforcement sent to keep her safe?
Remember how she's actively accusing Sen. Ted Cruz and other GOP members of being murderers and insurrectionists, as well as calling for the end of wrongthink and free speech?
Well if you do remember, there's no need to think about it any more. Snopes led the charge of flushing this one down the memory hole with an absolutely laughable fAcT-cHeCk.
Here's what they said:
"Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez exaggerated the danger she was in during the Jan. 6, 2021, Capitol riot, in that she 'wasn't even in the Capitol building' when the rioting occurred."
Here was their rating:
And this was the weaksauce explanation:
"What's True: Ocasio-Cortez wasn't in the main Capitol building where the House and Senate Chambers are located."
Okay, lemme stop ya right there, Snopes. The original claim was that people were pointing out that she wasn't in the Capitol building and exaggerated her account of the story for straight-up outrage and victimhood points. It seems to me that you just confirmed that.
"What's False: When the attack on the Capitol began, Ocasio-Cortez was in her congressional office, which is located in a network of office buildings immediately surrounding the Capitol, and her office building was one of the two buildings that were evacuated."
Okay, so let me get this straight. What's true is that she wasn't in the Capitol, but what's false is that she wasn't in the Capitol. Got it.
An absolutely one-side pile of narrative trash followed that assessment. Snopes' bias stinks to high heaven and beyond, and the very fact that they bill themselves as oBjective fAcT-cHecKeRs is absurd in every way possible.
Here were a few of their statements.
First, it's all about experience over actual truth and facts:
"Ocasio-Cortez also observed that it's a painful fact for many survivors of trauma that they must deal with people who try to minimize what they experienced when they tell their stories, in an effort to silence them.
It took less than 48 hours for the right-wing disinformation machine to contrive a way to minimize what Ocasio-Cortez said she had experienced."
Notice the unpartisan language up above? Remember, every right-wing outlet is part of the "disinformation machine," while CNN, MSNBC, and WaPo never lie about anything like Russia buying off a president ever.
Snopes called this "a circus of cyberbullying," because AOC hasn't ever used tech platforms to manipulate public perception and bully her opponents, like staging a photo op at a fence or accusing a sitting senator of murder.
Second, Snopes does the usual leftist trick of comparing legitimate conservative voices to Alex Jones and InfoWars. It doesn't matter who you are, anyone who disagrees with a secular, socialistic view of the world is a "conspiracy theorist" who must be silenced.
"Others similarly chimed in, such as conspiracy theorist Candace Owens, who piled on another false claim by tweeting that Ocasio-Cortez had faked her 'own attempted murder.'"
What else do you call a dramatized display where someone pretends they were in danger but never were, and then literally accuse people of murder?
I'm willing to bet no one at Snopes has ever listened to Candace Owens talk for more than 10 seconds. These are the same type of people who often tell me that devout Orthodox Jew Ben Shapiro is a fascist neo-Nazi.
Snopes then notes the situational connection to actor Jessie Smollet, who Snopes says was "accused of staging a racist, anti-gay attack against himself in Jan. 2019."
Accused? If you call literal video evidence and the public admission of the men he hired to fake the attack a simple "accusation," then I guess Hitler stands "accused" of wiping out six million Jews.
Again, are you feeling how uNbiAsEd this fAcT-cHeCk is? Do you feel it cares about anything other than protecting the far Left?
I wouldn't be surprised if writer Bethania Palma has a hidden shrine to AOC in her house. We mustn't let those nasty conservatives speak ill of the Chosen Queen!
Snopes then discusses AOC's evacuation from her office, how she thought she was going to die, and was in a heightened "fight-or-flight" state.
I get it. The woman isn't good in a stressful life-or-death situation. I'm not going to mock that. But what I will mock is livestreaming her "experience" after the fact to re-enact how a mob of evil MAGA peeps were coming for her and how she literally thought she was going to die.
"Ocasio-Cortez never claimed she was in the main building," said Snopes of the insinuation that AOC was at the Capitol.
She didn't say she wasn't either. Aren't you guys and AOC the ones saying people need to be "held accountable" for "misinformation?" That seems like a critical component to leave out.
If this was just a congresswoman opining about the stressful events of the day, it'd be understandable, but it's not. This is what AOC does, and she's good at it. Tugging at heart strings makes Marxism easier to swallow, comrade.
"The online attacks on Ocasio-Cortez downplayed, from a safe distance, not only the sense of fear she felt in the moment during the attack on the Capitol, but also the imminent physical danger that she and others in and around the Capitol really were in during the attack."
Except she WASN'T in imminent physical danger. That's like saying someone fired a gun two blocks from me and the bullet almost killed me.
This was probably the "insurrectionist" AOC was most afraid of:
Snopes concluded with another sUpEr oBjEcTiVe statement:
"Ocasio-Cortez made history when she was elected in 2018 as the youngest woman ever to serve in Congress. She is also a political progressive and a woman of color."
CAN YOU FEEL THE OBJECTIVITY??
Conclusion: When a guy like Ted Cruz uses a lawful mechanism to object to certifying votes in order that a committee can be formed to investigate, he is literally a murdering insurrectionist traitor who is hellbent on destroying the nation.
But when AOC accuses said senator of murder without warrant, and then goes online to exaggerate and misrepresent what happened during a divisive situation, links it to sexual assault, and disparages the agents who came to evacuate her, that's totally fine and we should look the other way because #HistoricalWomanOfColor.
Got it.
