Collectors are finding that their Warner Bros. DVDs are starting to rot

As more and more streaming services hide movies away behind streaming paywalls (while editing scenes to appease the woke mob) many film lovers have started picking up the movies they love on physical media, like DVDs.

After all, manufactured DVDs are supposed to have a shelf life of 50-100 years.

A lie indeed. Reports are coming out that at least one company's DVDs are not living up to those specs. DVDs manufactured by Warner Bros. between 2006 and 2008 -- more than 350 titles -- are literally rotting on collectors' shelves. Laser rotting, that is.

The dreaded laser rot, where discs simply stop working due to a rotting of the layers. Once it happens, it can't be undone. This was a frequent problem with laserdiscs back in the 80s and 90s, but it wasn't a huge problem with DVDs.

Warner Bros. released a statement about the issue:

Warner Bros. Home Entertainment is aware of potential issues affecting select DVD titles manufactured between 2006 - 2008, and the company has been actively working with consumers to replace defective discs.

Where possible, the defective discs have been replaced with the same title. However, as some of the affected titles are no longer in print, or the rights have expired, consumers have been offered an exchange for a title of like-value.

Consumers with affected products can contact the customer support team at [email protected].

Films like Lethal Weapon, A Clockwork Orange, Angels in the Outfield, and Twilight Zone have been destroyed with the laser rot, along with several classic series.

It's nice that they're offering to replace titles that are still in print, but a lot of the movies are no longer in print, which usually also means they're not available for streaming, and in that case, owners are just out of luck.

Here's a complete list of the DVDs affected.
