May I present: Western civilization circa 2022.
Yes, that is a lady who crashed into an icy river, and she's taking a selfie as her vehicle slowly sinks into the frigid water.
I am now legally obligated to remind you of this story we ran just a few days ago:
What a time to be alive!
So, how did we arrive here?
Well, this moment apparently happened this week on the Rideau River in Manotick, a town in Ontario.
Here's a video from a witness:
Like good Canadians, one of them used a spare kayak they had for just such emergencies to haul her to safety.
Another view of the wreck:
So what in the heck was this lady doing out in the middle of a river in the first place?
Well, according to reports, she was purposely using the river as a driving shortcut.
"She came from a long way down the lake," Smith said. "She was driving for a while."
This security camera footage from Sacha Gera's backyard shows the car speeding down the river at what witnesses say was about 60 kilometers per hour.
"You don't expect your kids to have to watch out for, for cars zipping down on the frozen river," Gera said.
Yeah, she's been charged by authorities.
I live in an area with a lot of ice fishing and we have our fair share of sunken cars at the bottom of various waterways.
With that being said, I can safely say this is the dumbest one I've ever seen.
