Zohran Mamdani needs New Yorkers to pledge their allegiance to the glorious revolution by funding his incoming administration so it can do all the Marxist things. He needs capital in order to overthrow capitalism.
Back in Stalin's day, they'd just take your stuff and shoot you to meet their funding goals, but in democratic socialism, you get a choice (for now).
Like typical Marxists, Mamdani's supporters say they'll just tax the middle class once all the kulaks have been driven out:
