Dude, this is a huge chunk of change if I ever saw one:
2 MILLION DIMES!!!
I'm sorry, but how does someone steal 2 million dimes?!?
And… WHY would someone steal 2 million dimes?
I mean, I know that's a good $200,000, but what are you going to do with the coins?
How are you going to get rid of them without coming off as suspicious?
Like, hey, can I pay for that Mercedes in dimes, please?
Not suspicious at all!
Apparently the trailer was parked in a Walmart parking lot and abandoned by a driver who wanted to get some sleep at home before heading to Florida with the cargo in the morning. I'm a little suspicious of the driver here, but maybe he just made an honest mistake. Who knows?
Police are looking for a group of "10 or more males" wearing black clothing. They are also looking for a white Chrysler 300 pickup truck with tinted windows…
According to the U.S. Mint website, a dime weighs 2.268 grams. So if 2 million dimes were stolen, that equals about 10,000 pounds or five tons of weight.
I wonder how disappointed they were when they cut the lock and found out the trailer was filled with dimes — 7,500,000 dimes!
I'd have backed out immediately and just walked into Walmart for a sandwich or something.
Not worth it!
But they did it anyway.
I found this hilarious: Apparently the thieves left a big mess in the parking lot and it took the crew "hours" to clean it up.
Can you imagine the mess?
And maybe I'm just being optimistic, but I hope there was a homeless guy or two there who were able to pick up a few Roosevelts for the road. Those add up!
Well, I'll leave you this local reporting on the dime theft and then I gotta get the heck outta here.
