Southside Chicago residents complain of being displaced to make way for Obama's $500 million Presidential Center

Barrack Obama has planned his latest vanity project for the Southside of Chicago, a predominantly black area of the city where Jim Croce warned us Leroy Brown lived.

This $500 million "Presidential Center" is designed to glorify Obama and, according to residents, gentrify the neighborhood and drive black people out of their homes.

In other words, Obama is continuing his legacy when it comes to improving race relations in the US.

From WaPo:

With the center's opening still two years away, rents in the surrounding South Shore and Woodlawn neighborhoods already are rising. Median home prices have more than doubled since the center's location was unveiled. Some longtime residents have been priced out.

In February, nearly 90 percent of voters on the South Side told city officials via a referendum that they should do more to create affordable housing and provide aid to renters and homeowners who live near the Obama Center. But whether the city acts on that will depend on the next mayor.

Obama's legacy must be celebrated at all costs. And if that means that rent goes up, housing doubles and poor folks can no longer afford to live near Obama's center, well, here's Obama's reaction to that:

One Chicago resident said the quiet part out loud, according to the Washington Post, saying that the center is being built for the world and that the people behind it could not care less what happens to the people who actually live in the area of Chicago that is impacted by Obama's project.

90% of voters in a referendum in the affected neighborhoods demanded that measures be taken to control the rise of rent, but that's entirely dependent on the willingness of Chicago's next mayor to look into the request.

Democrats, of course, blame "greedy landlords," when, in reality, this is how economic forces work when an area is being cleaned up and developed.

That's just them wanting to blame anyone but Obama for their residents' complaints.

The center is still two years away from opening, and the Obama team insists that the economic benefits will outweigh the costs.
